University of Kent International College (UKIC) – Pathway Programs & Admissions
Pathway Programs and Subject Areas
- International Foundation Programme (IFP) – a one‐year foundation course (September intake only) that “bridges the gap” to undergraduate study. IFP offers entry routes into the Kent Business School, Computing, Engineering & Mathematical Sciences, Human & Social Sciences, and Law, Society & Social Justice.
- International Year Zero (IYZ) – the first year of a four-year bachelor’s degree. IYZ covers English language and subject modules in the same fields as IFP (Business School; Computing; Engineering/Mathematical Sciences; Humanities/Social Sciences; Law/Social Justice).
- International Incorporated Master’s (IIM) – an accelerated postgraduate pathway in Business or Computing. IIM is completed over 1–2 terms (one term for students with a 3rd-class honours degree, or two terms otherwise), after which students progress to their chosen master’s degree.
Admission Requirements (Academic & English)
- IFP & IYZ: Applicants need a high school diploma (or equivalent) plus 5 GCSE/IGCSE passes (grade 4/C or above, including native language). English requirements are IELTS 4.5 for IFP (no component <4.0) or IELTS 5.5 for IYZ (no component <5.5).
- IIM: Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree. A third-class honours degree qualifies a student for the one-term IIM track; other UK‐equivalent degrees qualify for the two-term track. English requirements are IELTS 6.0 (no part <5.5) for the one-term pathway, or IELTS 5.5 (no part <5.5) for the two-term pathway.
Program Features and Admissions Benefits
- Visa and Status: IYZ and IIM students receive a single student visa covering the entire course duration. All UKIC students are registered as full University of Kent students from day one, giving them access to all university facilities and support.
- Learning Environment: Classes are small and taught by experienced faculty. The college community is very international (over 150 nationalities on campus) and students can join 250+ clubs and societies, enriching the academic experience.
- Location Advantage: The Canterbury campus is about 60 minutes by train from London, with easy bus/shuttle links to the Medway campus, allowing students to explore the region and commute conveniently.
Canterbury Campus and Student Life
UKIC is housed in a dedicated building on the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus.
The campus sits on 300+ acres of parkland with scenic views over historic Canterbury. It is described as “beautiful, unique, peaceful, green” by students.
Onsite amenities include cafés, restaurants and bars, a four-storey library, a theatre and cinema, a sports centre and gym, and various shops and food outlets.
Student accommodation is located in the campus village right next to the college, so students live “in the heart of student life”. The campus is compact (you can walk end-to-end in ~15 minutes) and offers a safe, self-contained study environment.
Overall, UKIC students enjoy the full range of University of Kent’s academic and social facilities from day one (libraries, support services, labs, sports, etc.), supported by a vibrant international community.
