    CARE, KNOWLEDGE & PRACTICE

    What you will study

Compare the module list with the care setting and role you want to work towards. Ask how the course develops your understanding of person-centred support, professional practice and working with others.

Request the current assessment plan, independent study expectations and placement requirements for the exact qualification you will register for.

    FIND YOUR STARTING POINT

    Entry requirements

Contact Knighton to discuss your qualifications, English language evidence and relevant work experience. The delivering institution will confirm the entry requirements, any interview or assessment, and the documents needed for your chosen intake.

If you are returning to education, ask whether your professional or vocational experience can support your application. Admissions decisions rest with the delivering institution.

    KNOW YOUR AWARD

    Confirm your Pearson qualification.

Health and social care course names can refer to different qualifications. Ask for the full award title, qualification number and current specification before accepting a place. Pearson is the awarding body; admissions and teaching are arranged by the delivering institution.

For comparison, Pearson’s current Healthcare Professions’ Support for England HND is a Level 5, 240-credit qualification, number 603/7880/3, with Higher Technical Qualification approval. Confirm whether this is the award offered for your chosen course.

    Read Pearson’s qualification information.

    PLAN YOUR STUDY BUDGET

    Student Finance for UK residents

Eligible UK-resident applicants may receive Student Finance support towards tuition fees and living costs. Support depends on the course, provider, previous study, age and nationality or residency status. UK residence alone does not guarantee funding. Ask for a funding assessment for your circumstances and confirm that your chosen course and delivering institution qualify. Check student-finance eligibility.

    Planning a 2027 start?
GOV.UK says applications for Lifelong Learning Entitlement funding open from the end of October 2026 for courses starting on or after 1 January 2027. Applications for courses starting from 1 August 2027 open in spring 2027. Check the application timetable.

Before accepting a place, request the fee schedule for each year and budget for travel, equipment and other study costs. An application for funding does not confirm an award.

    LOOK AHEAD

    Placement and progression planning.

Ask whether a placement is compulsory, how many hours are required, who arranges it and which safeguarding or occupational-health checks apply. Confirm how placement hours fit around your work and caring responsibilities.

For a later degree application, ask the receiving university to confirm credit transfer, grades and any additional entry requirements in writing.

If nursing is your goal, ask about the separate professional training and registration requirements. Explore our nursing and health-course guide to compare your options.

    TURN YOUR PLANS INTO ACTION

    Your application checklist.

Use these questions to prepare for your conversation with Knighton and the course provider.

This checklist is for your own planning. Your answers are not submitted or stored.

    QUESTIONS STUDENTS ASK

A few things to think through.

Can I apply with work experience?

Ask whether the delivering institution considers relevant professional or vocational experience and which evidence it requires. Contact Knighton to discuss your background.

Can I study in the evenings?

Timetables depend on the delivering institution, location and intake. Ask Knighton about available study arrangements before making commitments.

Will the HND lead to a degree?

Ask the receiving university to confirm any top-up or advanced-entry route, required grades and additional modules in writing. Admission is subject to its requirements.

    Is student funding guaranteed?

Eligibility depends on your circumstances, previous study, the provider and the course. Confirm the funding arrangements for your intended start date before enrolling.

    How can Knighton help?

We can help you compare study options and organise questions about admissions, timetables, costs and progression. Start with a free consultation.
