You can become a nurse in the UK even without a nursing background by taking a pre-nursing (IIM Health Science or similar) pathway, such as the International Incorporated Master’s (IIM) at the University of Dundee, offered through Oxford International Education Group.
Here’s how it works:
✅ Route to Becoming a Nurse without a Nursing Background:
- Apply to the IIM Health Sciences (Pre-Master’s) programme
- This is designed for international students who do not hold a nursing degree or who do not meet direct entry requirements for a nursing MSc.
- You’ll take academic and English language modules to prepare for postgraduate study.
- Progress to MSc Nursing (Pre-registration) at the University of Dundee
- After successfully completing the IIM, you can progress to a 1 -year MSc Nursing course.
- This course leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), which allows you to work as a Registered Nurse in the UK.
- No prior nursing degree is needed
- But you usually need a degree in a related field
- You also need to meet English language requirements (usually IELTS 5.5+).
